About Neil Mellor. Neil began playing the guitar aged 9, when he was gifted an acoustic guitar from his uncle. Rock bands such as Iron Maiden, Guns ‘N’ Roses and Megadeth where amongst the inspiration in the early years. During his teens the discovery of guitar players such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen became a turning point which only strengthened his love of music and the guitar. He has studied music with some of the most renowned session musicians and professional guitarists in the world, names include: Shaun Baxter, John Wheatcroft, Jimmy Bruno, Bruce Bouillet. |
On leaving High school, Neil continued to study music at Liverpool Arts College and later University. In 2006 Neil graduated with a BA Hons Degree in Music from ‘The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts’ (LIPA). During the graduation ceremony Sir Paul McCartney presented Neil with ‘The Beatles Story Award’. Over the years Neil has played on many sessions, including working alongside members of Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros, Moby, Take That and Robbie Williams Band, Texas, Uriah Heep, to name a few. Other session work has included composing and production work for computer game companies and guitar magazines. |
Live performances have included Music Festivals, Cruise Ships, Guitar Shows, Product Demonstrations, Guitar Masterclasses, Tribute Bands and Original Bands. Currently Neil has quite a few projects in the works, and is writing and recording Solo material, as well as working on original band projects. He has over 20 years of performing and teaching experience and is also an endorsee for Fretking and Vintage Guitars, RotoSound Strings, Lizard Spit Guitar Cleaning Products and Hawk Guitar Picks. Neil is also a highly respected Music Educator. He first started teaching at the age of 16, aged 18 he was recommended by the head of guitar at Liverpool Music College for his first professional teaching role at Dawsons Music. |
